About Us

The Emma Burton collection was launched in 2009. It consists of a daywear range of digitally printed handbags, shoppers and purses; an eveningwear range of silk handbags, scarves and purses and a homewear range of cushions. Each product within this collection features at least one of Emma's own textile prints that she designs exclusively for the collection.

The textile designs are characterised by their bold vibrant colour and striking feminine imagery. Inspiration comes from objects and places that Emma photographs. She then dissects, manipulates and combines this imagery in order to create unique prints that will work within the collection. The designs are then digitally printed onto silk, cotton and linen using the latest in textile printing technology.

Biography

Emma Burton was born in Newcastle Upon Tyne in 1974 and subsequently went on a voyage of discovery around the world with her family until the age of 12 when she returned to Newcastle. She stayed there until she completed a BA (Hons) in fashion design at Northumbria University and then moved to London where she gained an MA in Mixed Media Textiles from the Royal College of Art. Emma has since worked for fashion design houses such as Alexander McQueen, has sold her textile designs to DKNY and has run her own successful costume design business. She continues to live and work in London.

The environment

Compared to other textile printing methods digital textile printing is relatively environmentally friendly. They use less than half the water than other printing methods and less ink, which is water based, are required for the process and because the correct amount of ink is used less unused chemicals are flushed into the environment.
